Willow Street – Apartments

Apartment development
6 week installation programme
System installer: PLP Construction (Main Contractor), Metbuild Framing Solutions (Installer)

When Irwell Valley Homes set out to create new supported housing in Bury, the goal was clear – to build a safe, high-quality environment where adults with additional needs could live independently, with care and community close at hand.

The £3.3 million Willow Street development would provide 13 modern homes for residents with physical or learning disabilities, developed in partnership with Bury Council, Persona Care and Support, and main contractor PLP Construction.

But turning that vision into reality required a construction approach that was efficient, predictable, and built to last. That’s where Intrastack came in.

A Smarter Way to Build

Intrastack was appointed by PLP Construction to manufacture and supply a load-bearing light-gauge steel frame (LGSF) structure for the two-storey scheme.

From the start, the brief was about more than just speed – it was about precision, collaboration, and creating a structure that would stand strong for decades to come.

Using our off-site manufacturing process, the steel frame was produced in controlled factory conditions, ensuring accuracy down to the millimetre. This approach meant every panel arrived on-site ready to slot perfectly into place.

Delivering Efficiency and Certainty

In total, the Intrastack system comprised:

  • 1,010m² of structural frame
  • 147 panels and 104 trusses
  • Delivered in just 6 main deliveries
  • Installed on site in 6 weeks

That level of efficiency helped keep the project firmly on track, reducing disruption on-site and allowing follow-on trades to start sooner. The lightweight nature of the system also reduced foundation requirements – saving both time and resources.

Partnership in Action

This project was a true collaboration. Working closely with PLP Construction and installer Metbuild Framing Solutions, our teams aligned early on design, logistics, and sequencing to ensure everything ran smoothly once on-site.

“PLP have a great reputation across the North-West, and after working with them, it’s easy to see why. The teamwork from design through to installation was excellent, and we’re excited to collaborate with them again on future schemes.”
— Danny Johnson, Head of Sales, Intrastack

Nick Wolstenholme, Construction Director at Metbuild Framing Solutions went on to say: “It was a pleasure working with PLP on the scheme, a great testament to all involved. With collaborative synchronization, and dedication from all parties involved, the Intrastack frame was complete in a 4-week period.”

Creating Homes That Matter

While the numbers tell an impressive story – 13 homes built in weeks rather than months – the real impact of Willow Street goes far beyond the construction site.

The scheme will give residents the opportunity to live independently with 24-hour support, helping people thrive in a home designed around their needs. It’s a tangible example of how modern methods of construction like LGSF can deliver both social value and technical excellence.

Building the Future Together

The Willow Street development shows what’s possible when innovation meets purpose. By combining off-site precision with on-site collaboration, Intrastack helped deliver a high-quality, sustainable structure.

For Irwell Valley Homes, that means more people can access the supported housing they need.
For Intrastack, it’s another step forward in redefining how homes are built.
